Federal Judge Requires Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to Pay Planned Parenthood Attorney Fees
Kansas City — Today, U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey issued an order granting Planned Parenthood Great Plains (formerly Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri) $156,630.68 in attorney fees and expenses in its successful case against the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). In the case, Judge Laughrey issued a permanent injunction blocking DHSS from revoking Planned Parenthood’s license to perform abortions in its Columbia health center.
“This additional confirmation that Planned Parenthood’s Equal Protection rights were violated by the state of Missouri is heartening, and a reminder that the law will hold accountable those who seek to block women from accessing safe, legal abortion. We will continue in our quest to reopen abortion access in Mid-Missouri until all Missourians, regardless of their location, can access the health care they need without interference from politicians and state leaders,” Planned Parenthood Great Plains President and CEO Laura McQuade said.
