Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes Reacts to Presidential Election Results
November 9, 2016
Overland Park – Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes (PPGPV) is deeply disappointed in the results of this year’s Presidential election. Secretary Hillary Clinton was the most qualified candidate for the office. She never wavered in her fight to give voice to the voiceless and defend access to the high-quality health care Planned Parenthood provides to countless women, men, and families. As the dust settles, PPGPV will follow in Secretary Clinton’s steadfast path and continue fighting to ensure all Arkansans, Kansans, Missourians, and Oklahomans can access high-quality, comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care at Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) health centers.
“PPGPV rejects the extremist rhetoric the Trump administration exploited to gain political power. While it may not seem like it today, light will outshine darkness and right will win out over wrong. PPGPV will march on to the legislative halls in all four of our states ready to work to improve state level laws that promote sex positive education for our youth and ensure access for our patients to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care; including birth control, abortion, cancer screenings, and transgender and HIV care” Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes President and CEO, Laura McQuade said.
PPGPV worked tirelessly this election season to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights defenders would be voted into office. PPGPV and its volunteers called more than 41,000 voters and reached 3.1 million online users to educate Arkansans, Kansans, Missourians, and Oklahomans about the candidates we support and trust.
“PPGPV continues to envision a nation that succeeds on unity and inclusion, not division and discord. Despite this setback, we will roll up our sleeves and get back to work to ensure that the patients who depend upon Planned Parenthood every day have access to the services they need and deserve. The upcoming legislative session brings new opportunity to expand Medicaid for under and uninsured patients, lift medically unnecessary abortion restrictions, and to improve sex-positive education for our youth. For more than a century, Planned Parenthood has had the privilege of providing the highest quality health care. Our doors are open today and every day. We will not back down from this work no matter how challenging it might become,” McQuade said.
