Kansas Monitor - April 22

Dear supporter,

Today, Governor Laura Kelly vetoed Senate Bill 67, the medication abortion “reversal” bill. This bill would require doctors to give their patients medically inaccurate information about an untested, experimental treatment called medication abortion “reversal.”

Gov. Kelly has been a long-time supporter of sexual and reproductive health and rights. In a statement, she said:

“Senate Bill 67 will interfere with the relationship between patients and their physicians. This unwarranted legislation will create confusion and could be harmful to women’s health. The practice of medicine should be left to licensed health professionals, not elected officials.”

The fight is not over yet. We know that anti-abortion politicians will try to override the governor’s veto next month, when veto session begins.

Contact your representative NOW and tell them to stand with Gov. Kelly and sustain her veto.

Kansans deserve expert, compassionate health care and medically accurate information about their pregnancy options. SB 67 undermines the care patients need and deserve and is just another attempt to restrict access to safe, legal abortion.
