Victory at the Supreme Court for PPKM and Advocates Across the Country

Today, in a landmark victory, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, the Center for Reproductive Rights’ (CRR) challenge to abortion restrictions that passed in 2013 as part of Texas HB2. The Court struck down both the admitting privileges and ambulatory surgical center restrictions statewide, protecting current access to abortion in Texas and allowing for expanded access in the future.

We’re Ready. Are You?

The clock is ticking down to THE abortion rights case of this generation. The Supreme Court will decide on Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt Monday, June 27. The case will determine whether two so-called “TRAP”(Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) laws in Texas are undue burdens on patients. Both of the medically unnecessary restrictions at front and center in the case are also enforced in Missouri. They are currently being held up in the court system in Kansas.

We gathered, made signs, and shared stories. It’s been a good day leading up to today’s big hearing. Patient advocate, Jackie Casteel of Columbia, MO, and two patient advocates from the St. Louis area – Sarah Birdsall and Ellen Dempsher, met over lunch and shared their stories of how and why they have come to Washington DC to support Planned Parenthood at the Supreme Court. We then met other supporters at Planned Parenthood’s headquarters, created messages for the rally and listened to other powerful stories of how Planned Parenthood has provided crucial health care for everyone in the room.
